Dates for Upcoming 2010 Youth Sports Seasons

YMCA SPRING soccer

SoccerThe YMCA Spring soccer season is set to kick off April 12th and run through June 5th!  Registrations are going on now through April 3rd at the YMCA front desk.  Anyone who misses the registration deadline will be placed on a waiting list.  Players selected to play from the waiting list are charged a $10.00 late registration fee in addition to the normal registration fee. Late fees are non-refundable and non-transferable. Participants are assigned to teams by school on a first-come, first-served basis.  A parents meeting is scheduled for Thursday, April 8th at 7:30 PM at the YMCA. 

Participants will be placed by age in one of 6 divisions:  Itty Bitty (3-4), PreK (4-5), Kindergarten (5-6), 1st/2nd grade (6-8), 3rd/4th grade (8-10), and 5th grade (10-11).  Co-ed teams will be formed at all age levels.  Small sided games are utilized to allow a greater number of touches on the ball and increase player involvement. Coaches will act as referees in all divisions except 3rd/4th & 5th grade. Games will begin on Saturday April 24th and will run every Saturday for 6 weeks except over Memorial Day Weekend.  Fees are $45.00 Y-members and $65.00 non-members.  Fee includes a YMCA soccer jersey and a participant medal.  Call 442-9622 or visit helenaymca.com for more info.  In YMCA Youth Sports, we strive to provide a structured environment emphasizing fun and learning, while teaching sportsmanship and teamwork.  In YMCA Youth Sports, every child gets the opportunity to participate equally, regardless of his or her ability.  Everyone Plays At The YMCA!

YMCA to offer QuickStart Tennis with M.C. Beeby

TennisTwo free QuickStart Tennis demonstrations with M.C. Beeby will be held in the YMCA gym February 9th and 11th at 9:00 AM. M.C. Beeby is a PTR Tennis Pro and leads QuickStart Tennis trainings for teachers, coaches, youth tennis instructors, parents and others. QuickStart Tennis uses short courts, foam balls, and shorter racquets to teach tennis skills to all age-levels and abilities. Have fun, get fit, learn a new skill or get ready for the upcoming tennis season. Regular classes begin Thursday, February 18th, 9:00 to 10:30 AM at the YMCA. The cost for the program is $15.00 for Y-members and $30.00 for non-members. Each class is four weeks long and is intended for adults. No experience is necessary and equipment is provided. Ladies Volleyball Night at the YMCA

Ladies Volleyball Night at the YMCAThe YMCA gym is now open for drop-in volleyball action Thursday nights from 8:00-9:45. Women age 15 and up are encouraged to join us for an evening all your own. No experience necessary, just a love for the game. There is a nominal fee for non-members. For those interested, league play will begin in the spring. Youth Volleyball

This Spring the YMCA will continue to offer youth volleyball for boys and girls ages 3rd -5th grade. This program is designed to introduce the sport of volleyball in a fun, friendly environment. All equipment and rules are designed to teach proper skills and technique to volleyball participants 10 years and younger. We will use small sided games, light-weight volleyballs, lower nets, modified rules and smaller courts as we bring this fast paced and exciting game to Helena’s youth!

YMCA Spring Floor Hockey

April 9th! Registration ends February 21st. All registrations will be taken at the YMCA front desk. If there is room in the league, a $10.00 late fee will be assessed for any registrations received after Feb. 21st. Sign-ups are on a first-come, first-served basis so don’t delay, get registered today!!

Participants will be placed by age in one of 2 divisions: PreK/K & 1st/2nd grade. Coed teams will be formed in both divisions. Coaches will act as referees in all divisions. All games and practices are held on weeknights. Therefore, there are no weekend commitments. The final week of the season will be exclusively game play. Fees are $35.00 Y-members and $55.00 non-members.

“en Guarde”

en GuardeCalling all swashbucklers, wannabe Zorros, and Musketeers! The Helena Family YMCA has recently added Olympic fencing, also known as “the art of the sword”, to our ever growing list of healthy family activities. Adults and kids alike will enjoy this unique and fast-paced sport.

This 8 week class will give the beginner a basic foundation in the fundamentals of foil fencing. The fee is $55.00 for Y-members & $65.00 for non-members. The fee includes instruction, use of all equipment, and a protective glove. Due to sizing of safety equipment, fencing is open to ages 10 to adult.
