===========================================

Whether it's learning how to swim or splashing about with your family, the YMCA has been involved in Aquatics since the late 1800's. The YMCA created formalized swim lessons and gave birth to what we now call Swim Teams. The Y was instrumental in developing the first lifeguard certification training and remains today the largest provider of certifications in the country.

The Helena Family YMCA offers the following levels of swim lessons based on age:

Aquatot is a class developed for parents and their children ranging from 6 months to 3 years. This class is designed to give parents information and techniques to help orient their child with the water.

Preschool classes are to teach children 3-5 years old water adjustment and various swimming skills. Preschool classes have four levels within the category based on skill level. Pike, Eel, Ray, and Starfish with the latter being more advanced.

Youth classes are for children 6 and up and also teach water adjustment, swimming skills, and a variety of strokes within six levels.

Lessons for Teens between the age of 12 and 16 and for Adults 17 and up are also available. You are never too old to learn how to swim properly. These lessons are designed to teach water adjustment, swimming skills, and a variety of strokes. These are private lessons which are done by appointment only.

Various times are set aside for recreational swim. Children under the age of 7 and those who cannot stand in the shallow end or pass the deep water test must have supervision by an "in-water" adult at least 18 years of age.

EXERCISE PROGRAMS
We offer adult lap swim for those 18 and older. We also offer aquarobics exercise classes at various levels of intensity.
